  • “Asylum Process Post Rwanda” – Brenda Efurhievwe (Barrister, Goldsmith Chambers)

    This presentation will consider the implications of the (timely) demise of the Rwanda scheme, and the recent changes introduced via The Illegal Migration Act 2023 (Amendment) Regulations 2024 on the operation of the asylum process.

    A review of the Amendments to IMA, will be followed by an overview of provisions and policies which continue to apply to the asylum process, with a particular focus on the applicable standard of proof and the credibility assessment. The session will conclude with a look at continued implications of the post-Rwanda backlog.

  • Compliance for Businesses: Business Visitor Rules and Sponsorship Compliance” –Jan Doerfel (Barrister, Goldsmith Chambers)

    Jan will be giving an overview of basic legislation relating to sponsorship compliance, outline the documents that need to be kept by employers, what is required as part of right to work checks and describe factors taken into account in the defence to Civil Penalties. He will also cover the amended Rules relating to business visits, what activities are now allowed for business visitors and how refusals can be challenged.
