  • ” How LawTech Is Driving Changes in Family Law Practice ”Kye Herbert (Barrister, The Barrister Group Chambers)

As courts encourage early resolution and non-court dispute processes, LawTech supports quicker, clearer pathways to avoiding disputes, and where they do arise, finding the right barrister and reaching a settlement is key. From AI-assisted barrister selection, technology-assisted drafting and remote consultations, remote hearings, to early neutral evaluations powered by structured data, shifts in practice can be seen everywhere. Used responsibly, these innovations promise faster, fairer, and more accessible outcomes for families navigating key life events, marriage, separation and conflict. This topic considers how technology is reshaping practice and horizon scans as to novel options for servicing your client’s needs. Practical insights, food for thought on how technology is affecting the day-to-day, hands-on work, is the theme.

  • Update on Children Law: Contact, Domestic Abuse Impact, and Cross Border ConsiderationsDenise Gilling KC (Barrister, 1GC Family Law)

It will examine how the courts are currently approaching contact arrangements where the impact of domestic abuse is a relevant factor. The session may also touch on the complexities that arise when children live outside the jurisdiction, highlighting emerging issues for practitioners.

  • “Putting Children First: The Evolving Role of the Family Law Professional” – Jo O’Sullivan (Collaborative Solicitor, Solicitor Neutral and Accredited mediator)

This session will explore key themes from the recently published report Putting Children
First – The Evolving Role of the Family Law Professional, produced by the
Family Solutions Group. It will highlight the latest survey findings and
examine developments in child welfare, the responsibilities of legal
professionals, and the importance of ensuring the child’s voice is
meaningfully heard. The session will also consider emerging expectations
around training, reflective supervision, and best practice, offering
practitioners valuable insight into the report’s recommendations.

  • “Conduct in Financial Remedies: Recent Decisions and Commentary” – Benitia Knowles-Wright (Solicitor, Senior Associate at Stephens Scown)

This session examines how allegations of conduct are currently being treated within financial remedy proceedings. It will review recent case law and commentary, explore when conduct becomes relevant to the court’s assessment, and consider how conduct may influence fairness and needs. Practical guidance will be offered on evidential issues, litigation strategy, and presenting or responding to conduct‑based arguments.

  • Winning On Law And Process: Ring-Fencing after Standish and staying on the
Right side of the judge (A 2026 FDR TOOLKIT)” –
Andrew Otchie (Barrister, 12 Old Square)

Andrew has a busy private family law practice and is a regular speaker at AstenJ events. His presentation will deliver a practical, case‑led toolkit designed to help practitioners succeed both on the law and in the process.

Substantively, he will unpack Standish v Standish [2025] UKSC 26, explaining why a tax‑driven transfer into a spouse’s name does not automatically “matrimonialise” pre‑marital wealth, and how to evidence source and purpose persuasively. He will then elucidate the Mostyn (two‑stage) versus Moylan (broad assessment) approaches to post‑separation accrual, the family home, and pensions (offsetting vs PSOs), enabling practitioners to make principled and realistic FDR offers.

Procedurally, he will address Efficient Conduct Statement pitfalls, wasted‑costs exposure, and proportionality in interim skirmishes, drawing on T v T & Ors, Mary Jane Grace, and DSD v MJW as cautionary guideposts. The session will also include practical checklists for bundles, open/WP offers, and timetabling.

  • “Understanding and managing Narcissistic behaviours in the family courts” – Shoba Aziz (Barrister, Great James Street Chambers)

This session explores how narcissistic personality traits can manifest within family law proceedings and
the challenges they create for practitioners, clients, and the court process. It will outline common
behavioural patterns, their impact on litigation strategy and case progression, and practical approaches for
managing high‑conflict individuals to support fair, child‑focused outcomes.
